I had such a great time last weekend at The Oregon Children’s Theater performance of Sideways Stories From Wayside School! I wanted to take Charlie but he insisted that he’s too old for plays. I think he would’ve enjoyed it! When I first walked into the theater, Newmark Theater, the stage set up looked just like a classroom, duh! But the sides of the stage looked like the side of the school. It looked like a mighty far fall if someone didn’t see the edge of the stage and then I remembered in the books the school was 30 stories high! Well the classroom the play takes place in is on the 30th floor and you definitely get the feeling it’s wayyy up there.
I read the Sideways Stories book to Charlie when he was younger and he loved how wacky, strange and funny they were. The performance was great and the kids played the characters just how I remembered them! It did get a little scary at parts but those parts didn’t last too long. My favorite character was definitely Mrs. J! She reminded me of Sierra, a woman that works at the station. The other characters were so funny. The redhead with the piggy tails that the boy wants to….well I can’t spoil the story!
Overall, a great play, storyline and I had a wonderful time. You should definitely check it out and tickets start at only $13! That’s cheaper than a Friday night movie! Plus, after the show is over all of the actors and actresses go to the lobby and you can get their autograph while they’re still in costume.
